Krystal McKay

Krystal McKay is from Nak’Azdli Whuten, grew up in Chilliwack, currently calls Tk’emlups te Secwepemc home and is a humble guest in beautiful Secwepemcúl’ecw.

Krystal McKay is a family lawyer who assists individuals and families with separation, divorce, parenting arrangements, child support, spousal support, property division, and separation agreements. She represents clients in both the Provincial Court and Supreme Court of British Columbia and accepts BC Legal Aid family law referrals.

Krystal believes that, whenever possible, family law matters are best resolved through collaboration, open communication, and negotiated agreements. She sees separation agreements as an important first step for many families experiencing a recent separation and enjoys helping clients navigate the early stages of the process. By receiving legal advice and guidance from the outset, individuals can often make informed decisions that help reduce future conflict and create a foundation for resolution.

Mediation is another valuable tool that Krystal frequently recommends where appropriate. She appreciates the opportunity mediation provides for parties to work toward practical solutions and lasting agreements while maintaining control over the outcome of their family law matter.

When court involvement becomes necessary, Krystal provides clear, practical guidance throughout the process. She takes the time to explain court procedures, legal requirements, and realistic expectations so that clients understand each step of their matter. Whether appearing in Provincial Court or Supreme Court, Krystal is committed to ensuring her clients feel informed, supported, and prepared.

One of Krystal’s greatest strengths is her ability to listen. She understands that every family’s circumstances are unique and takes pride in helping clients understand their options so they can make decisions that are right for themselves and their children. Her goal is to ensure clients feel comfortable, informed, and confident as they move toward resolution.

Before becoming a lawyer, Krystal worked as a legal assistant and paralegal in the Lower Mainland for 15 years. She obtained her Juris Doctor from Thompson Rivers University in 2023 and was called to the British Columbia bar in June 2025 after completing her articles with Alexander Stewart Lawyers.

Krystal also has an interest in legal issues affecting First Nations communities and appreciates the unique complexities that can arise when navigating legal matters involving reserve lands and Indigenous communities. Her experience working with First Nations organizations during law school has provided valuable insight into these important issues.

Outside the office, Krystal enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and children and can often be found with a good cup of coffee and a book.
If you are facing a family law issue and need guidance, please contact Krystal by phone or email. She will do her best to help you understand the process, explore your options, and move your matter toward resolution with confidence.
