Krystal McKay is from Nak’Azdli Whuten, grew up in Chilliwack, currently calls Tk’emlups te Secwepemc home and is a humble guest in beautiful Secwepemcúl’ecw.
Krystal moved with her husband and son to attend Thompson Rivers University (“TRU”) in 2020 and graduated with her Juris Doctor in 2023 shortly before welcoming a baby girl to the family. During law school, Krystal travelled to Montreal, QC to compete in a mock negotiation competition with law schools across Canada.
The Kawiskimhon National Aboriginal Moot is roundtable negotiation on a topic that incorporates Indigenous law, legal traditions as well as provincial, federal and international law.
Since her move to Kamloops, Krystal’s son participates with the Sun Peaks First Nation Snowboarding team, now called Skwelk̓wélt Indigenous Snowsports Team. Krystal is a board director for the non-profit, supporting indigenous youth from local communities in their desire to maintain a healthy lifestyle, gain confidence in a competitive sport and spend time on the land.
During the summer months, Krystal and her family enjoy camping, with led her to volunteer as a campground host for Recreation Sites and Trails BC since 2021.
Krystal is eager to complete her Articles and expects to be called to the Bar in Summer 2025.
